Venice Bridge Run 2010

The Bridge Run in Venice, known to Venetians as “Su e zo per i ponti” (literally: “Up and down over the bridges”), is a fun run without a competitive focus, held in Venice every year between March and April. This year, the Venice Bridge Run takes place on April 18, 2010. The day begins with a church service at 8:00 a.m., followed by the start at 10:00 a.m.

Su e zo per i ponti: a fun run for everyone

The Bridge Run course is divided into different routes according to each runner’s age and ability. This means that both casual runners and experienced long-distance runners can choose a route suited to their individual abilities. There are two different routes for “Su e zo per i ponti”: the longer course is 9.4 kilometers and crosses 42 bridges, while the shorter run is 5.3 kilometers and crosses 28 bridges.

Running in a unique setting

Above all, however, it is the setting that makes the Venice Bridge Run such a special event: runners make their way through Venice, passing many of its sights—a more beautiful backdrop for a running course is hard to imagine. The Venice Bridge Run starts at the Doge’s Palace in St. Mark’s Square and winds its way along the city’s unique streets and squares, and, above all, over the bridges that give the event its name.

The Venice Bridge Run: taking part is what counts

Although the Venice Bridge Run is not directly competitive like other conventional events of this kind, runners receive a commemorative medal at the end of “Su e zo per i ponti” and, of course, are kept well supplied with drinks by the organizing team throughout the race.
