Venice expands ferry connections in 2010

From May 2010, new ferry connections will operate from Venice to Italy, Syria and Egypt. The Ro-Pax service, which will carry freight and passengers weekly between the ports of Venice and Tartus and between Alexandria and Venice, was launched by Venezia Logistics in cooperation with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Munich.

New ferry connections in Venice: a boost for business and tourism

The new routes will be served by a purpose-built vessel capable of carrying over 2,000 metres of rolling cargo, around 70 cars and nearly 360 passengers. The new route will make it possible to transport a shipment of highly perishable fruit and vegetables from Alexandria to the Free State of Bavaria in just 72 hours.
The aim of the new connections is to expand Venice’s maritime transport infrastructure—an improvement that will also benefit tourists, offering new travel options for arriving and departing, as well as onward journeys with Venice as a stopover.

Tourists gain new options for onward travel and excursions

The construction of new car parks near the port is intended to further improve Venice’s infrastructure. Passengers will be able to park conveniently right at the Port of Venice and board the ship. Holidaymakers staying at a hotel in Venice can now also take a longer trip to Egypt or Syria thanks to the new routes. In any case, the new ferry connections launching in May 2010 are an attractive addition to tourism in Venice, making the Port of Venice more appealing for both business and tourism.
