DTM race in Veneto in 2010?
Motorsport fans and industry insiders are buzzing: Will a DTM race return to Veneto as early as 2010? According to unconfirmed rumors, the current 2010 DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) season could be expanded at short notice to a total of eleven races. In that case, racing fans could look forward to an unexpected additional DTM race.
Adria Raceway near Venice to host the DTM again?
Qatar was initially named in unconfirmed reports as the venue for the additional race, which would shorten the break for drivers and fans between the DTM race at Hockenheimring in October and the season finale at the Shanghai circuit in November. However, according to the news agency dpa, Adria Raceway near Venice is now being considered. The last weekend in October would be a possible date for the race.
No official confirmation yet
In addition to dpa, the specialist magazines Speedweek and Motorsport, as well as the website sportal.de, have also reported that these rumors are circulating. It has not yet been confirmed that a DTM race will take place in Veneto again as early as 2010. Adria Raceway hosted races in 2003 and 2004. In the last DTM race in Venice to date, in 2004, Mattias Ekström took Audi—then a returning competitor—its first victory of the season in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Critics, however, object that the time before the planned event in October is too short to organize a DTM race properly and ensure it runs smoothly.
No longer a rumor, but officially confirmed: At the Nuremberg DTM race, it was announced that a show race would take place at Munich’s Olympic Stadium in July 2011.
