Venice Marathon
Although the Venice Marathon is still some time away, taking place in October, this year’s event promises to be something special. The Venice Marathon was first held in 1986, making this its 25th edition. Over the years, this outstanding sporting event in Venice has grown into an international attraction. Participants in the Venice Marathon come from all over the world. The date set for the Venice Marathon is 24 October 2010. The organisers are accepting registrations until 20 October 2010.
According to the organisers, there is only one word to describe the marathon in Venice: spectacular. You can decide for yourself. The fact is that Venice is quite flat, so runners can expect a large field. October is also always chosen for this excellent event. Temperatures of around 15°C are considered pleasant. Ideally, the course runs between Venice and Padua, allowing runners to stay in either city. The route of this unique sporting event in Venice reflects the beauty of the city. Passing villas and impressive scenery along the Brenta riverbed, then running through Parco San Giuliano with views of Venice’s skyline, marathon runners reach their eagerly awaited finish in Venice, amid its magnificent sights, including the harbour, canals and bridges.
The entry requirements for runners taking part in the Venice Marathon, including those travelling from Germany, are straightforward and easy to explain. An entry fee, also known as a starting fee, is charged; the price rises to a maximum of €90.00 by the deadline. The fee covers the necessary costs of the Venice Marathon, including, among other things, a shuttle bus between the start and finish. Participants must also have been born in 1992 or earlier, be able to present an approved medical certificate and be registered with an IAAF athletics federation.
The editorial team also recommends booking hotels or holiday apartments in Venice or Padua well in advance.
