Festival of Contemporary Music 2010

In Venice, one event follows another: from September 23 to October 2, 2010, the popular Festival of Contemporary Music returns to the lagoon city as part of the Venice Biennale. This year marks the festival’s 54th edition, and once again it will draw crowds of music fans, who will book holiday apartments, holiday homes and hotels in Venice especially for the occasion.

For a week and a half, the Festival of Contemporary Music 2010 in Venice will offer an extensive and varied programme, featuring an impressive total of 87 concerts of the highest quality. Renowned ensembles, orchestras and soloists will showcase their talents in Venice as part of the event, alongside meetings, seminars and workshops.

Luca Francesconi, the new music director of the Venice Biennale, has chosen an intriguing theme for this year’s festival in the lagoon city: young artists and rising stars will be supported by some of the great composers and musicians who decisively shaped 20th-century music.

As in previous years, the Festival of Contemporary Music is organised in collaboration between the Venice Biennale Venice and the La Fenice Theatre Foundation. Many of the festival’s scheduled concerts and performances will therefore take place at the Teatro La Fenice, considered the most popular theatre in Venice. Some of the world’s greatest artists have performed in this renowned theatre. The Teatro Piccolo Arsenale and the Teatro alle Tese will also serve as venues.
