Throughout history, Venice has inspired artists from all over the world, and even today, city breaks in Venice are synonymous with refined culture in Italy. Famous landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica and, of course, the Rialto Bridge also feature in numerous paintings and photographs by 19th-century German artists. The exhibition in Karlsruhe offers a rich variety of works and covers almost every style of painting and photography.
Among all the landscapes in Veneto, the lagoon city of Venice on the Adriatic is undoubtedly especially enchanting. The German artists of the 19th century rose to the challenge of capturing these impressions in their drawings, paintings and photographs with considerable success. The exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission to the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe is free on Fridays from 2 p.m.; otherwise, it costs just €2.60, or €1.80 for concessions. Groups of 10 or more receive discounted admission.
