Pernumia reveals its distinctive character above all through the historical traces found in its churches, villas and the personalities associated with the town. Added to these are cycling routes in the surrounding area and a regional connection to Asparago di Pernumia. If you would like to shape your stay in Veneto around culture, Pernumia offers several clearly distinct themes to explore.

Churches, Frescoes and the History of the Town

A notable place of remembrance is the former Ospitale della Trinità. Of the former institution, only the adjoining chapel remains. The Oratorio della Santissima Trinità also preserves fragments of valuable 15th-century frescoes. The Chiesa di Santa Giustina is one of the oldest parish churches in the Diocese of Padua. During its restoration, the remains of the original parish church, dating from the 5th or 6th century, were discovered in 1998.

Ca' di Dio, also known as Casa del Capitano, is another historical landmark of Pernumia. The medieval building was once the headquarters of the Paduan guard. Another trace leads to Angelo Beolco, known as Ruzante, a playwright associated with Pernumia and considered to have been born there. Casa del Ruzante is a private residence reconstructed according to the original design of the playwright’s house. In Pernumia, you can therefore encounter both medieval architectural history and the memory of an important figure in Italian drama.

Villa Maldura Grifalconi Bonacossi and Its Landscaped Park

Another focal point is Villa Maldura Grifalconi Bonacossi. It was built in the first half of the 18th century at the request of Alvise Grifalconi. In 1721, the villa was sold to the Maldura family, who turned it into their country residence. The estate included a park designed by the Maldura family, with statues made of soft stone.

The historical description of the villa also includes greenhouses and an orangery. They were intended for a collection that also included plants from abroad. These details make the estate notable not only as a building, but also as an expression of an earlier culture of gardening and collecting.

Cycling Routes and Regional Experiences

For exploring the area by bicycle, the “Dai Colli all’Adige” cycling route network is a point of reference in its own right. It comprises two circular routes, each approximately 30 kilometres long. The routes follow cycle paths and lightly trafficked roads; one stage heads towards Pernumia. A cycling excursion with the same name passed through San Pietro Viminario, Vanzo, Tribano and Pernumia before continuing to the ancient Oratorio della Santissima Trinità di Pernumia.

Asparago di Pernumia

Asparagus is also part of the local identity. The Asparago Bianco Padovano marketed by O.P. COP comes from the designated area of Monselice and Pernumia (PD) and has particularly high-quality characteristics. At the Festa dell’Asparago di Pernumia 2024, dishes were served whose main ingredient was Asparago di Pernumia. The festival took place from 24 to 28 April 2024 and was announced as a traditional annual celebration of the local flagship product. As this information refers to 2024, it should be regarded as a past event date.

If you would like to compare Pernumia as part of your further travel planning, you can also include Limena, Stanghella, Casalserugo, Sant'angelo Di Piove Di Sacco, Galzignano Terme, Ospedaletto Euganeo, Masi and Maserà Di Padova.
