Vescovana is ideal for travelers who want to discover Veneto from a cultural and historical perspective. The focal point is Villa Pisani Bolognesi Scalabrin with its historic garden. The villa offers daily guided tours of the building and garden. A viewing terrace on the piano nobile was created to admire the garden from above. This allows the visit to be experienced through both the architecture and the designed landscape.

Villa Pisani and its garden as defining experiences

Villa Pisani Bolognesi Scalabrin was built in the first half of the 16th century on behalf of Cardinal Francesco Pisani. It served as the administrative seat for the estates in the Bassa Padovana, which the family had already acquired in 1478. The complex includes an elongated main building with covered barchesse, a dovecote and a stable. The history of the villa spans a medieval farmstead, a Renaissance palace and the 19th-century cultural salon.

The development of the garden also tells its own story. Its transformation began in 1852, when Evelina van Millingen came to Vescovana and began creating her garden with Crispin de Passe. The large formal garden combines Victorian English taste with the tradition of the Italian garden and elements reminiscent of Islamic gardens. It features centuries-old and monumental plants, including non-native species. The park also includes the Teatro dell’800. Anyone wishing to combine historic garden art and architecture on a trip through Veneto will find a clear cultural focus here.

Churches and religious architecture

The Church of San Giovanni Battista is also part of Vescovana’s cultural heritage. It was built at the end of the 16th century to replace an earlier place of worship and was remodeled several times over the following centuries. The church includes the Oratory of Madonna di Loreto. The chapel of the S. Casa di Loreto next to the church contains frescoes by Jacopo Marieschi depicting a Madonna and Child, female saints and angels.

In addition, the Oratorio della Presentazione della Beata Vergine Maria in Vescovana is assigned to the San Giovanni Battista parish district. These sacred sites can provide a distinct thematic focus for your day planning, while Villa Pisani with its garden, chapel and theater offers another way to explore the history of the place. The family chapel in the villa’s park is considered an important example of Elizabethan Gothic Revival style. It was built in 1860 by the sculptor Antonio Gradenigo based on a design by Pietro Selvatico Estense.
