Bannia: Maglio Zuccato, Bell Tower and Festivals
Accommodation in Bannia
Bannia brings together evidence of industrial history, sacred architecture, archaeological traces and festive traditions. If you are looking for accommodation in Bannia, you can base your choice on the topics that are of particular interest to you during your stay.
Maglio Zuccato and the History Along the Sile River
Maglio Zuccato plays a special role. The sawmill is one of the few sawmills in Bannia that are still functioning and active, and it uses the water power of the Sile River. At the same time, Maglio Zuccato is an industrial archaeological site. It is located between the right bank of the Sile River and a Roman road that is still visible today. Technical use, a river landscape and an archaeological site therefore come together here.
For your trip planning, Maglio Zuccato offers a tangible connection to the local history without reducing Bannia to a single historical theme. It is also worth looking at Via Palazzine di Sopra: the archaeological site is a Neolithic settlement associated with the culture of the Square-Mouthed Vases of the 5th millennium BC.
The Bell Tower and Chiesa delle Sante Perpetua e Felicita
The townscape is also defined by the Campanile di Bannia. Its square bell chamber features round-arched triplet windows, unplastered brickwork, balustrades, columns and concrete capitals. At the top are four corner obelisks supporting an octagonal lantern made of exposed brick. The bell tower was designed by the architect Domenico Rupolo.
Bannia is also home to another sacred landmark, the Chiesa delle Sante Perpetua e Felicita. Girolamo D'Aronco is named as its creator. Those interested in church architecture, bell-tower architecture and the different ways historical features shape a town can include these buildings in their exploration of Bannia.
Language, Festivals and Events
Bannia also has a distinctive linguistic characteristic: the town is associated with Baniòt, an independent variant of the Friulian language. This aspect adds a cultural perspective to the architectural and archaeological themes.
Events reveal further facets of the town. The Festa del Fritto reached its 22nd edition in 2026. At the Festeggiamenti dell’Assunta in Bannia di Fiume Veneto, music, folk traditions and gastronomy were on the programme from 5 to 15 August 2025. This dated event belongs to the past and describes the event programme at that time; it does not automatically indicate a future date.
Routes for Active Trip Planning
The eighth edition of the Marcia della Stria took place on 3 August 2025. This edition featured routes of 6, 13 and 18 kilometres. For your planning, this selection shows that, alongside culture and local history, Bannia can also be experienced through a documented event format offering different distances.
