If you are looking for a place with church art, river landscapes and cycling routes for your trip to Cordenons, Cordenons offers various thematic approaches. Those interested in culture will find historic churches and works of art, while the Risorgive del Vinchiaruzzo and several paths provide useful starting points for planning an active stay.

Culture and local history in Cordenons

The Chiesetta di San Giacomo features a 15th-century fresco cycle. The Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore contains an altarpiece by G. Narvesa from the 17th century. It depicts the Trinity with San Valentino, San Floriano, a holy bishop and worshippers. The church itself is neoclassical; its construction began in 1778 and was completed in the first half of the 19th century.

The Duomo di Cordenons also has its own distinctive focus. Its organ was built in 1939 by the Zanin company and is considered an important example of Cecilian organ building. The organ is used by various associations that organize vocal series and concerts in the church. The Chiesa di San Pietro also contains a panel triptych dating from 1551.

Other notable places provide historical context: Villa Badini Pasqualini was formerly the summer residence of the noble Badini family. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista lies northwest of the center of Cordenons on the road to San Quirino. The Festa delle zucche was an autumn festival in Cordenons focusing on pumpkins in decorations, regional culinary specialties, and cultural, recreational and entertainment activities. Each year, a particularly long pumpkin cake was prepared and shared with visitors.

Resurgence springs, rivers and cycling routes

The Risorgive del Vinchiaruzzo are partly recognized as the European protected area ZSC IT3310010 and are included in the bird protection area ZPS IT3311001 Magredi di Pordenone. An excursion to the Risorgive leads from the last terraces of Cordenons to the wetlands of Vinchiaruzzo, continuing to the riverbed of the Meduna and returning via the historic road at the lower ford. This road once connected Cordenons with Murlis.

For planning a trip by bicycle, the Per magredi e risorgive route is a clearly described option: it is suitable for bicycles and mountain bikes and connects Cordenons with the extensive spring area between Cansiglio, the Longone ridge and the hill of Sarone, Palù del Livenza. The route offers wide views stretching for many kilometers to distant mountain peaks. The landscape is characterized by the contrast between blue skies, gray gravel areas, and green and reddish groups of woodland.

Another point of reference is the Lungo il fiume Noncello route. It is 15.7 km long and runs from Piazza della Vittoria in Cordenons to the confluence of the Noncello and the Meduna near Visinale di Prata. The route begins at Piazza della Vittoria in the center of Cordenons and leads near Via Cortina to the first visible traces of the Noncello.

Those primarily interested in frescoes, altars, organ building and historic churches will focus on different things than someone who places the Risorgive, the Meduna and a cycling route at the center of their plans.
