Piancavallo combines winter sports with a wide range of experiences in summer.

Winter Sports and Ice Skating

The Piancavallo ski area has 14 km of alpine ski slopes with snowmaking systems that ensure consistent snow cover. Modern ski facilities are available for downhill and cross-country skiing. If you primarily want to spend your days on the slopes or cross-country trails, this focus is an important part of choosing the location and finding suitable accommodation in Piancavallo.

The Piancavallo Ice arena offers an additional option. The covered oval ice rink measures 30 × 60 m and has a quartz concrete surface. In winter, you can go ice skating there. In summer, the concrete is used for inline skating or roller skating. This means it can be included in your travel plans independently of a traditional day of skiing.

Summer Activities on the Plateau

In summer, the Tremol chairlift takes you to Baita Arneri at an altitude of 1,630 m. A chairlift in Piancavallo also provides access to downhill mountain biking. In summer, bicycle rental and bicycle repairs are available for cyclists.

The Piancavallo Alpine Coaster is another attraction in its own right. The 1,000 m-long bobsled-on-rails track passes over bumps, through bends, and around parabolic curves. Together with the Ice arena, cycling services, and hiking trails, it expands the range of options for a stay combining different activities without defining the location as an exclusively winter destination.

Hiking from Different Starting Points

A dense network of trails through dense forests and grazing areas provides suitable conditions for hiking in Piancavallo. The Ring of the Carbonaie and Col Cornier loop is a moderately difficult hike that begins at the Piancavallo information point. The Carbonaie are level areas that bear witness to the work of charcoal burners in these mountains up to the 1950s. On this loop, movement through the landscape is combined with an insight into this historical use.

Other trails each have their own starting points: the Belvedere and Casera Collalt discovery loop begins at the PromoTurismoFVG information point, while the Policreti Trail begins at the Piancavallo information point. This information helps you take the desired starting point of a trail into account when planning your day, without combining the routes into a single trail.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Plans

When searching for a hotel or other accommodation in Piancavallo, you can first determine the main focus of your stay. For a winter trip, the 14 km of alpine ski slopes, modern facilities for downhill and cross-country skiing, and ice skating at the Ice arena take center stage. In summer, the Tremol chairlift to Baita Arneri, downhill mountain biking, bicycle services, the Alpine Coaster, and the trail network become the main attractions.

If you would like to experience a variety of activities, you can organize the options by season and personal interest: sporty downhill runs, a ride on rails, moderately difficult hikes, or a more leisurely exploration of the Carbonaie. For further travel planning, you can also visit Castello d'Aviano as another destination.
