Villalta is part of the municipality of Chions and combines an agriculturally shaped setting with historic buildings, cultural sites and various opportunities to explore the landscape by bicycle. This means your travel planning is not limited to a single theme, but offers a choice of cycling routes, churches, towers, parks and bodies of water. The character of the area is particularly vivid on the routes to historic villas and manor houses.

Cycling between Villalta and the surrounding towns

A circular route to historic villas and manor houses uses sections of asphalt, gravel and cobblestones. These different surfaces are therefore part of the documented route and shape the way you experience it. Another circular route to historic villas and manor houses passes through Chions and Pravisdomini and partly follows the Ciclovia della Bassa Pianura Pordenonese, designated as FVG 9.

Other routes also explore the surrounding area in different directions. One cycling route leads from Sesto al Reghena through Cordovado and Chions to Taiedo. The route passes through an area rich in history and culture. Around Villalta, the Parco delle Fonti also has 8 kilometres of cycling paths.

Parco delle Fonti and Lago le Roste

Around Villalta, the Parco delle Fonti extends over 80 hectares near Torrate.

Another destination for an excursion is Lago le Roste. The artificial lake offers opportunities for sport fishing; Lago le Roste also has a park and equipped facilities for recreational activities.

Towers, churches and cultural sites

The preserved Torre di Sbrojavacca stands near Villalta; it is a square brick tower 20 metres high. It was first mentioned in a document dating from 1220.

Another historic building is the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giorgio, which dates from 1400. In the municipality of Chions, of which Villalta is part, there are also parish churches dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. These parish churches contain valuable frescoes, most of which are attributed to the school of Bellunello. This provides several different points of interest for a culturally focused stay: a single preserved tower, a church dating from 1400 and sacred art in other parish churches throughout the municipality.

Near Villalta, Villa Perotti was restored and converted into a cultural centre. From 15 to 19 June 2026, the Punto Musica ON THE ROAD course included an event at SULLA SOGLIA OdV, Via Monte Grappa 16, Villalta.

Historic landscape of the municipality

The orthogonal pattern of roads and fields has been preserved in the municipality of Chions. It is associated with the Roman centuriation of the Agro di Julia Concordia. At the same time, the municipality retained its agricultural character until the recent past. Historic spatial planning and more recent agricultural history thus stand alongside the churches, cycling routes and cultural sites, without Villalta having to be reduced to a single attraction.

The Rio Lin is also part of the area’s recorded history: it has been remembered historically as a natural open-air sports facility for young people from Villalta. Together with the Parco delle Fonti, Lago le Roste and the routes through the surrounding towns, this connection broadens the view of Villalta to include landscapes and experiences beyond its architectural monuments.
