Paese: Villas, History and Culture
Accommodation in Paese
Paese brings together a layered history of villas and a waterscape of ditches and canals. Historic buildings and religious sites offer distinct points of interest; the events planned for 2026 add specific dates. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you are most interested in architecture and history, the landscape, or a particular event.
Villas and historical context
Casa Quaglia is a Gothic villa building from the 15th century and is considered one of the oldest examples of villa architecture in the Treviso area. Villa La Quiete was built in 1778 by Marquis Giuseppe De Canonicis. Villa Panizza came later: the Malanotte family had it built in 1810 and expanded it around 1870. These different dates give Paese’s architectural history more than one point of reference—from the 15th century to the 19th century.
Villa La Quiete is also connected to the history of the Venetian resistance. Around the mid-19th century, it became one of the most important centers of resistance against the Austrians. Teresa De Perissinotto, Daniele Manin’s wife, lived there in exile from 1848 to 1849. The villa’s garden contains the integrated Oratorio di Villa, a chapel with a 16th-century fresco depicting the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. Architectural history, political history, and religious art intersect here across different periods.
The Chiesa di San Lorenzo in Padernello also has a clearly defined architectural history: it was built in the early years of the 18th century on the foundations of the first place of worship and was consecrated by Bishop Morosini in 1712. Villa Panizza, in turn, connects architectural history with present-day community life: Paese’s public library is located in the restored villa. Thus, Paese’s historic buildings represent not only different eras but also different cultural connections.
The waterscape around Paese
The area around Paese has numerous ditches and canals. They are fed by artificial canals diverted from the Piave, particularly the Canale della Vittoria di Ponente. This waterscape adds another dimension to the destination alongside its villas and churches. Architecture and history shape individual buildings, while the canal system describes a broader landscape. You can consider both perspectives when getting to know Paese.
Event dates in 2026
The events planned for 2026 differ in both format and timing. “Paese in bicicletta” was scheduled as an eco-friendly bicycle tour along the roads of the municipality for May 30 or, alternatively, June 6. “Biblioteca in festa” was due to take place on May 9 at 3 p.m. or, alternatively, on May 16 in the Parco di Villa Panizza; activities, games, and workshops were planned. These May and June dates have already passed in 2026.
“Delizie d'autunno 2026 – Festa di San Martino” is planned in Paese for November 8, 2026, with a market event, food and refreshments, and public entertainment. Unlike the spring dates that have already passed, this festival offers a specific event in November. If an event date determines your stay, the distinction between past dates and the November date still planned is important for your schedule.
