Precenicco offers distinct points of interest: rural architecture, pilgrimage history, cycling routes, and a remnant of the ancient lowland forest. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose what to focus on depending on whether you are especially interested in cultural history, cycling, or landscape history.

Buildings and Historical Traces

Canevòn is 16.50 metres wide, 76.80 metres long, and 9 metres high. It was built between 1792 and 1794 by Antonio Cassis Faraone, Count of Precenicco, and has always served as a granary. It is almost five times as long as it is wide and more than eight times as long as it is high; these dimensions make the elongated structure easy to appreciate.

The fort, designed by architect Rocchi in 1910, is a later historical landmark. It took part in no combat during the First World War and remains in good condition to this day. Canevòn and the fort thus span the period from the late 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

Titiano is the oldest area of the municipality. In Roman times, it had a building for pilgrims travelling from Aquileia to the territory known as Noricum. A later pilgrimage history dates to the 13th century: a group of the Teutonic Order was founded in Precenicco to help German pilgrims travel from the port of Latisana to the Holy Land. A rectangular hall was built by Teutonic Knights who administered the river port there. The pilgrim connections differ in time and direction: Titiano represents the Roman route from Aquileia to Noricum, while the Order’s context relates to the later connection from the port of Latisana to the Holy Land.

Cycling Routes along the Stella and through the Lagoon

Both cycling routes pass through Precenicco along the Stella, but take different paths beyond it. The Ring of Two Rivers (R044) follows the river almost to its mouth, then returns towards Lignano along the river bends and through some sections of the lagoon. The Anello Lignano - Marano Lagunare con ritorno via mare (R027) uses the Marano Lagoon on the return journey to Lignano Sabbiadoro. In the summer months, this route becomes a circular route when the BICI + BARCA service is operating. The Stella Cycle Circuit (R024) guides cyclists from Latisana railway station towards Precenicco.

Bando di Sotto and the Lowland Forests

Bando di Sotto is a remnant of the lowland forests of the Bassa Friulana, covering about 10 hectares. It preserves part of the ancient lowland forest known as Silva lupanica, which once covered the plain between the Livenza and Isonzo rivers in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Comparing the local remnant with its former extent reveals two scales of the same landscape history: Bando di Sotto covers about 10 hectares, while the historic forest covered the plain between the two rivers.
