Codroipo offers several distinct reasons to visit: archaeological history, buildings with a past of their own, a traditional fair, as well as parkland and cycling. Villa Manin, the Teatro comunale and Gradiscje each offer a different historical perspective; the Parco delle Risorgive and the Anello delle risorgive add landscape and outdoor activity to these themes.

Architecture and historical perspectives

Villa Manin in Passariano is located within the municipality of Codroipo and is one of the largest Venetian villas ever built. It is also associated with a precisely dated political event: Napoleon Bonaparte used the villa as his headquarters and signed the Treaty of Campoformido there on 17 October 1797, sealing the end of the Serenissima. Its frescoed halls house multimedia installations, exhibitions and events. Architecture, historical role and cultural use thus offer different ways to explore the villa.

The Teatro comunale di Codroipo offers a different emphasis. The original building was constructed in the 1930s to plans by architect Ermes Midena as a Casa del Balilla. In addition to its primary function as a theatre, it was also equipped for film screenings. Its construction period, architect and original designation give the building a clear architectural context; its facilities for film screenings add another cultural function. Unlike Villa Manin, the theatre’s construction history and its additional facilities for film take centre stage.

Archaeology and landscape

The Museo Archeologico di Codroipo was established following archaeological research in Codroipo and the surrounding areas. A specific site associated with protohistoric history is the settlement of Gradiscje, which stood on a modest, square-shaped rise. The museum and settlement offer different perspectives: the museum is connected with research in the town and its surroundings, while Gradiscje refers to a specific settlement site and its terrain. From Via Gradiscje, opposite the Codroipo sports ground, a short path leads to the archaeological site of Gradiscje.

There are also different options for outdoor activities. The Parco delle Risorgive di Codroipo covers about 45 hectares. The Anello delle risorgive (R023) is designated as an easy cycling route; it runs from Codroipo in the direction of Villa Manin. For the park, the approximate area is the main point; for the cycling route, it is the difficulty rating and direction. This lets you choose between the two depending on your interest in landscapes or cycling.

Fair and other destinations

The Fiera di San Simone is a traditional fair in Codroipo and reached its 46th edition. Alongside the historic buildings and archaeological site, the fair tradition is therefore another of the town’s cultural highlights.
