Flaibano brings together several points of interest in church history and two different cycling options. For your travel plans, this means you can assess the destination by its cultural focus or its connection to cycling. When looking for a hotel in Flaibano, these themes can guide your choice of destination.

Churches: different historical points of interest

The church of Sant’Odorico was mentioned on October 20, 1154, as a monastery or a regular foundation of Augustinian canons led by an abbot, and later became an abbey church. This links an early institutional reference with its later development. The year 1154 marks the mention of the foundation, not a specific construction date for the church.

The parish church of Beata Vergine Annunziata in Flaibano was almost entirely rebuilt between 1922 and 1933. One distinctive detail is its side portal: it was made by Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte and is decorated with sixteen different angel faces. The period of reconstruction and the portal’s design offer two different points of reference for understanding the church: a comprehensive architectural renewal and a specific, named artistic detail.

For the rural church of San Giovanni Battista, its dedication and restoration are key. It is dedicated to the Italian Alpini. After the damage caused by the 1976 earthquake, the Alpini restored the building and erected an Alpini monument in front of it. The church’s present appearance in Sottoselva dates back to the 16th century. Of the three altars from that century, one survives and is attributed to Carlo da Carona.

The dates refer to different aspects: 1154 marks the mention of Sant’Odorico, while 1922 to 1933 marks the almost complete reconstruction of the parish church of Beata Vergine Annunziata. For San Giovanni Battista, the 16th century refers to its present appearance and the creation of the three altars. This helps distinguish the churches’ institutional development, construction phases, and appearance.

Cycling: a themed destination or a circular route

“Castellieri in bicicletta” is a cycling tour to the Castellieri of Flaibano and the surrounding area. A different option is the “The Stone Houses cycle circuit.” It leads from Codroipo toward San Lorenzo–Coderno and Flaibano; on the return leg, it goes via Sant’Odorico, Turrida, and Gradisca back to Codroipo. The two options therefore differ in their stated focus: the first tour centers on the Castellieri, while the circular route follows a sequence of named places.

To choose between them, consider what you would like to use as your point of reference. “Castellieri in bicicletta” names a themed destination connected with Flaibano and its surroundings. The circular route provides a specific itinerary through its sequence of places and return to Codroipo. This lets you assess the cycling options by theme or by the route described, without treating the two tours as the same.
