You can plan a trip to Gonars around two clear themes: routes along the Corno and historic memorial sites. The route distances help distinguish the different options. The cultural sites offer their own points of interest—from archaeological finds and a historic boundary stone to monuments and mosaics. For planning your trip, it helps to consider these themes separately: the focus of the routes is on the specific distance, while the cultural history is about the historical context. This lets you treat outdoor activities and local history as distinct aspects of your stay.

Walking and cycling routes

The “10,000 Steps in the Corno River Park” route starts in Parco dei Tigli in the center of Gonars. It offers a longer option of 8.5 kilometers and a shorter one of 4 kilometers. The distance is the practical difference when choosing between them: the shorter option covers less ground, while the 8.5-kilometer option covers more. You can therefore choose between the two based on how long you want your walk to be.

Parco del Fiume Corno has a paved cycling path with benches and information boards. Another cycling option is the 31-kilometer Gonars–Risorgive route. It starts in Gonars’s main square and has no inclines; conditions along the way may vary. This route has a clearly stated distance and profile, while the park’s cycling path is defined above all by its benches and information boards. The three stated distances range from 4 to 8.5 to 31 kilometers: the first two are for the “10,000 Steps in the Corno River Park” route, while Gonars–Risorgive, at 31 kilometers, is the longest of the routes mentioned.

History and remembrance

A specific link to the town’s earlier history is the boundary stone erected in 1753. It marked the former boundary between Gonars and Morsano and is now kept in the parish rectory in Gonars. The date gives the boundary marker a clear historical context, while its present location maintains its connection to Gonars. The Antiquarium Canzianese is attached to the church of San Canciano and preserves numerous archaeological finds discovered locally. As a larger collection of finds, it complements the individual boundary stone with an archaeological perspective on local history.

The Monumento all’aviazione in Gonars commemorates the wartime mission of Major Pilot Oreste Salomone and the crew of his Caproni bomber. The Sacrario Memoriale was built in 1973 at the initiative of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. The two names mark different historical reference points: the Monumento focuses on a specific wartime mission involving a pilot and crew, while the Sacrario is firmly linked to a specific year and initiative. Mosaics on the monument in Parco della Memoria reproduce works created by internees at these sites. The creators of the works reproduced are therefore also relevant to their historical context.

The years 1753 and 1973 mark two different points in time: the boundary stone and the construction of the Sacrario Memoriale.
