Sutrio brings together a historic centre, a woodcraft tradition developed over generations, and experiences in the Zoncolan area. When planning a trip, these offer a range of interests: the village and its craft culture on the one hand, and walks, trekking and other activities in the mountain landscape on the other.

Historic Centre and Woodcraft

Small cobbled lanes and typical stone houses define Sutrio’s historic centre. Visitors interested in the character of the village will find a clear picture here of its traditional architecture. The village’s long woodcraft tradition, passed down through generations, is part of this heritage.

The historic centre is home to carving and sculpture workshops, among the best known in the region. The Teno Nativity Scene depicts life in the village of Sutrio in the form of a small ethnographic museum. Craft and village life are therefore not simply separate subjects: the Nativity Scene makes life in the village itself the focus of its display.

The events calendar also features wood. Every year on the first weekend of September, Sutrio hosts the “Magic of Wood” exhibition. The exact programme may vary from one edition to another; the recurring date offers a seasonal opportunity to include woodcraft and culture in your travel plans.

Trails and Experiences in the Zoncolan Area

Mount Zoncolan rises to over 1,900 metres at its summit, Cima Tamai. Dense forests, alpine meadows and mountain pastures cover its slopes. The mountain has trekking trails, leisurely walking paths and cycling routes for different fitness levels. There are several ways to spend time outdoors, and not every route demands the same level of effort.

In summer, the road from Sutrio to Mount Zoncolan, at 1,750 metres, is suitable for easy hikes and especially scenic walks. Several trekking routes lead to nearby peaks, including Mount Tamai, at 2,000 metres. Leisurely walks and summit-bound excursions are therefore different ways to experience the mountain landscape.

The Fattoria Diffusa experience in the Zoncolan area takes visitors through the municipalities of Paluzza, Ravascletto and Sutrio. It offers direct contact with local traditions, nature and animals. The experience also includes tastings of agricultural products and regional food. In this way, the tour brings together several municipalities and offers insights into nature, everyday culture and regional cuisine.

Visit Zoncolan excursions can be purchased online or at the Visit Zoncolan information point in Sutrio. When planning your trip, it is advisable to check the arrangements before you arrive.

A Seasonal Nativity Scene Exhibition

A travelling exhibition of handmade Nativity scenes winds through the characteristic districts of Sutrio, visiting courtyards, arcades and cellars in typical houses. For the 2026/27 edition, the exhibition includes more than 20 stops in Sutrio, Priola and Nojaris. At each stop, there is something to smell, touch, taste and see. Exact dates vary by edition; the exhibition is a seasonal experience, distinct from the landscape and craft themes described as available year-round.
