Martellago: Parco dei Laghetti and Historic Buildings
Accommodation in Martellago
Martellago combines a designated natural area with buildings whose history can be traced back over several centuries. For orienting yourself in the area, Parco dei Laghetti, the Chiesa di Santo Stefano Protomartire, the Barchessa Fapanni Combi, and Villa Priuli Grimani Morosini are particularly relevant. This picture is complemented by a railway station in Maerne di Martellago, the Dese River, a regional horticultural product, and a golf course with a clearly defined special feature.
Natural area with clear visitor rules
Parco dei Laghetti includes an area of approximately 51 hectares comprising former quarries in Martellago. It is part of the Natura 2000 network and is designated as an SCI, SPA, and, since 2018, an SAC. Parco dei Laghetti is an area of particular landscape and natural value. Accordingly, the focus here is not on a single attraction, but on a clearly defined area with several formal protection and designation characteristics.
Parco dei Laghetti can be accessed via Via Fornace in Martellago and Via Cà Bembo in Maerne. The applicable restriction is crucial when planning your journey: access, transit, and parking of motor vehicles are prohibited on roads and paths, meadows, wooded areas, agricultural land, and along the paths. The park should therefore not be understood as a destination for travelling by motor vehicle within the grounds. The Dese River, the most important watercourse crossing the Martellago area, is also part of the local landscape.
Church and historic residences
The Chiesa di Santo Stefano Protomartire is dated to the period from 1770 to 1820. On 21 September 1777, it was consecrated by Bishop Francesco Giustiniani. Two years later, in 1779, painters Giovanni Battista Canal and Domenico Fossati were commissioned to create a large fresco depicting the martyrdom of Saint Stephen.
The Barchessa Fapanni Combi is a historic residence in Veneto that was built in 1600. In the 19th century, it was restored according to a design by architect Michele Fapanni. To visit the historic residence, an appointment can be arranged in advance, subject to availability. Villa Priuli Grimani Morosini, also known as Ca' della Nave, stands on Via Castellana in the centre of Martellago. Its main building dates from 1547 and has a square floor plan, three storeys, and a hipped roof.
Further local points of interest for planning your trip
The railway station is located in Maerne di Martellago at Via Circonvallazione 64. Among the region's specialities, Radicchio rosso di Treviso is one of the typical horticultural products of the area around Martellago. Another clearly defined highlight is the golf course at Golf Club Ca' della Nave: artificial lakes come into play on 12 of the 18 holes. The natural area, historic architecture, a specific railway station location, and this culinary and sporting feature therefore provide different points of reference for understanding Martellago.
