Mira: Villas, Routes and Venetian History
Accommodation in Mira
Mira combines a townscape shaped by canals and villas with historic routes along the Brenta. Mira Taglio is particularly atmospheric: numerous villas line the canal, interspersed with historic terraced houses. This brings together different facets of Venetian architecture within a compact area, without reducing the town to a single attraction.
Villas and History by the Water
A commemorative plaque on the façade of Foscarini dei Carmini recalls that the English poet George Byron spent long periods there between 1817 and 1819. The plaque adds a clearly documented historical trace to Mira’s architectural character. On the historic circular route through Mira Taglio, which runs along the canal, you will come across Villa Corner on the right-hand side in the direction of Padua. The route therefore connects the townscape along the canal with another specific example of Venetian villa architecture.
Another notable building is Villa Venier Contarini. It is a Venetian villa that the Venier family had built on the left bank of the Brenta towards the end of the 16th century. Its exact location on the riverbank and the time of its construction make it an independent historical point of reference during a visit to the town.
Walk along the Naviglio del Brenta
The walking route along the Naviglio del Brenta begins in the centre of Mira and leads via Via Nazionale to the Riviera S. Trentin. It then follows the Brenta to the Piazzetta di Mira Porte. The route is designed as a loop: it crosses a pedestrian bridge and returns to Mira along the opposite bank of the Brenta. You can therefore view the walk as a continuous route linking the centre, sections of the riverbank, and Mira Porte.
The lock at Mira Porte is clearly visible from the permanent bridge over the Brenta. This viewpoint is part of the route described and makes the function of the river and its structures immediately apparent. Villa Seriman, Foscari, Widmann-Rezzonico can be reached by bus between Venice and Padua. This specific bus connection between the two cities thus adds another way to incorporate Mira and its historic sites into the wider itinerary.
Park and Other Town Pages
The park of Villa Levi Morenos is open to the public. From April to September, it is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; from October to March, it is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The seasonally different opening hours are essential for planning a visit to the park and clearly vary according to the time of year.
If you would like to compare Mira with other places in the immediate vicinity, the supplementary town pages lead to Malcontenta and Oriago Di Mira. Mira itself thus remains the starting point of the overview, while you can then place additional destinations for your journey through Veneto in context.
