Discover Teglio Veneto
Accommodation in Teglio Veneto
Teglio Veneto reveals itself through the combination of history, local events and distinctive landscapes. The historic centre of Teglio Veneto stretches along the Roggia Lugugnana, a river fed by springs. It is also home to religious buildings with remarkable artistic and architectural features, the Prati delle Pars as an ecological restoration area, and festivals that bring local traditions to life. This allows you to discover the area according to your interests, without reducing it to a single attraction.
Events with a local character
A particularly vivid example is the Palio dei Mussi. In this event, Teglio Veneto’s five districts present the customs, traditions and ways of life of the local community at the beginning of the 20th century. As part of the Palio, a donkey race takes place on the third Sunday in September along Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Lugugnana, with children riding without saddles. The event therefore combines a historical representation of community life with a clearly defined programme item of its own.
Teglio della Poesia is also more than a single stage format: the cultural event includes poetry, painting, music and theatre. It takes place every two years in September, alternating with the national Barbazep poetry competition. This two-year cycle is crucial when planning the timing of your visit. As a culinary addition, the Sagra del Bisàt, an eel festival, is one of Teglio Veneto’s gastronomic events.
Churches and traces of local history
San Giorgio Martire is considered the last neoclassical example of religious architecture in the Portogruaro area. The Chiesa di San Giorgio also contains a wooden altar with an altarpiece of the Madonna del Rosario by Osvaldo Gortanuttis. Around the churchyard of San Giorgio Martire stand the last original trees of the Parco della Rimembranza. A permanent commemorative plaque in the park tells the history of this site.
Another historical stop is the Oratorio di Sant’Antonio Abate, which already existed in the 13th century. It was later extended with a Renaissance-style courtyard supported by columns. Older residents of the area used to meet in front of the oratory to make important decisions for the community. In Cintello, the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista stands on the banks of the Lemene River. Its Romanesque frescoes depict the patriarchs, Saint Christopher and the Kiss of Judas. A guided historical and cultural walk through Teglio Veneto and Cintello is available for secondary school classes.
Water, meadows and the Gira Tagliamento route
The Prati delle Pars form an ecosystem with rare species and protected habitats. At the same time, they are an ecological restoration area comprising meadows, trees, ponds and hedgerows. This specific interplay of different landscape elements makes the Prati delle Pars a distinct natural theme within the municipality. Cyclists on the Gira Tagliamento route can experience this area. The route thus complements the historical and cultural themes with a landscape perspective.
