Pressana: Villas, Churches and Cycling History
Accommodation in Pressana
Pressana offers two distinct perspectives to help you plan your trip: architectural history and art on the one hand, and cycling along the Treviso Ostiglia Cycle Route on the other. The historic sites differ in function and period; the cycle route follows the trackbed of a former railway. Local specialties round out the picture. This can help you decide whether architecture, cycling or food should shape your stay.
Culture and Architectural History
The Oratorio di S. Sebastiano is a church dating from the late 9th century. Villa Querini Stampalia includes a Benedictine church dating from the year 1000; its frescoes are dated to 1400 and attributed to Falconetto. Colombaia Corte Leopardi is a tower dovecote dating from the late 15th century, Cà Querini is a manor villa from the early 16th century, and Villa Gaudio is an aristocratic villa from the early 17th century. The Chiesa di S. Maria Maddalena is an 18th-century parish church. The sites therefore span the period from the late 9th to the 18th century. The oratory, Benedictine church, parish church, manor villa, aristocratic villa and tower dovecote also represent different architectural forms and purposes; here, architectural history is not understood through dates alone.
Art and visit planning come together at Villa Querini Stampalia. Groups must book in advance; booking is recommended for all visitors. Visiting hours may change. At Villa Grimani, the focus is on its decorative art: the loggia is adorned with archaeological landscapes from Roman antiquity, including an amphitheatre and an obelisk. The interiors are also richly decorated with frescoes. Another form of cultural heritage is the restored white slab kept in Pressana: its bas-relief depicts Asclepius with a snake.
Cycle Route, Getting There and Local Specialties
The Treviso Ostiglia Cycle Route follows the trackbed of a former railway. On 4 August 2025, an additional 23-kilometre section was inaugurated between the municipalities of Cologna Veneta, Pressana, Minerbe, Legnago and Cerea. The distinction is useful: the former railway trackbed tells the story of the route’s origins, while the additional section marks its expansion in 2025. When planning a cycling trip, you can therefore consider both the history of the infrastructure and a section with a specific length.
You can reach Pressana by car via the A4: take the Soave exit when travelling from Milan, or the Montebello exit when travelling from Venice. Road conditions and signage may change.
Local specialties include Prosciutto di Crosare and Amaro Persius with red radicchio. They add a culinary dimension to the cultural, historical and sporting themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Pressana, you can shape your stay around your interests: architectural history and art, cycling or local specialties.
