A trip to Stra offers the chance to explore rural cultural history and cycling together. Villas and historic traces in the municipality of Albaredo d’Adige offer insight into architectural and local history, while various routes each have their own character. You can tailor your stay to your interests, whether they lie more in architecture, rural culture, or a walking and cycling tour.

Villas and historic traces

Several villas in the municipality of Albaredo d’Adige represent different periods. Villa Serego Rinaldi is a 16th-century villa complex with agricultural outbuildings, a chapel, and a park. The villa also preserves a cycle of frescoes depicting rural and mythological scenes, attributed to Domenico Brusazorzi. The outbuildings, chapel, and park show the property as a unified ensemble; the frescoes bring together two distinct visual worlds.

Villa Perosini Fontana dates from the 17th century and is located near the bridge over the Adige. Villa Malaspina Pellegrini dates from the 18th century. It stands on the left bank of the Adige in Motta, between Albaredo and the hamlet of Coriano. Villa Brena has a different historical context: it was designed in the early 20th century in the style of 18th-century Venice. Its large garden and extensive park add a landscape perspective to its architectural history.

The former Rocca di Rivalta is also among the historic sites in the municipality. It stood near Motta and was partly destroyed in 1234 during the conflicts between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. Taken together, these landmarks span a medieval fortification, villas from the 16th to 18th centuries, and an early 20th-century building that draws on older styles.

Rural culture and literature

Dino Coltro was born in StrĂ  di Coriano. During his training on a rural farm near StrĂ  di Coriano, he developed an interest in the world of farming. He later described this world in nearly thirty books. His publications include poetry, fiction, research, and theatre. His literary work therefore extends beyond a single genre.

The work “Mondo Contadino” puts in written form the heritage passed down orally by generations of farmers. Coltro’s engagement with the world of farming and the recording of oral traditions in writing offer two distinct perspectives on rural culture: one through a wide-ranging body of literary work, the other through preserved storytelling traditions.

Walking and cycling routes

An ecological and cultural route runs from Albaredo d’Adige via Riva dell’Adige to Beccacivetta di Coriano. It can be travelled by bicycle or on foot. The cycling route “In bici con gusto tra sapori e cultura della Bassa Veronese” passes through the named location of Moggia Strà and is rated easy to moderate. Another option is the 55-kilometre “Gravel delle 4 Province” loop; Moggia Strà is one of its named locations.

When planning, the main differences between these options are how they can be used and the stated distance: the ecological and cultural route is intended for cycling and walking, while the gravel loop is listed as a 55-kilometre cycling tour. The named locations also help distinguish the route descriptions. The Arcole DOC wine is also part of the regional context: part of its growing area lies within the municipality of Albaredo d’Adige.
