Borca di Cadore in the Boite Valley

Borca di Cadore is a mountain village in the Boite Valley in the province of Belluno. The village combines documented trails through the mountain landscape with modern architecture, local culture and activities for different seasons. If you would like to choose your stay in Veneto based on specific experiences, you will find both short destinations close to the village and signposted routes and distinctive historical landmarks here.

Trails, Waterfall and Panorama

Rifugio Città di Fiume is a stage stop on the Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 1. Trail No. 468 from Borca di Cadore/Serdes has a different character: it climbs gently westwards to the meadows around Taulà de Tiera at an elevation of 1,271 m. At Forcella Forada, Trail No. 468 from Tièra and Trail No. 480 meet. The Forcella also offers a very wide panorama, making it a distinctive point within this trail landscape.

The walk to Cascata di Borca begins in Borca. It crosses the bridge over the Boite and then follows a forest track through a fir forest. There is an equipped picnic area at Cascata di Borca.

Architecture and Regional Identity

Villaggio Eni in Borca di Cadore was designed by Edoardo Gellner; it was built between 1954 and 1962. The complex includes the Church of Nostra Signora del Cadore, with exterior walls made of raw concrete, a steeply pitched gable roof and a bell tower topped by a steel spire. The architecture thus creates a clear accent alongside the village’s rural Alpine character and makes Villaggio Eni a destination in its own right.

Ladin, a language rooted in the vernacular form of Latin and a strong symbol of identity, is still spoken in Borca di Cadore. The parish church of Saints Simon and Taddeo is also one of the cultural points of interest: it houses a G. Callido organ from 1791. Every July, the feast of Saint Anne, the village’s patron saint, is celebrated with church services, music, traditional games and dishes such as polenta with parsnips and apple fritters.

Family Activities and Winter

Happy Park offers an equipped play area with slides, swings, wooden elements and seesaws. There is also a small pump track and cycling track for bicycles and mountain bikes.

Every winter, a 3 km cross-country skiing loop is prepared in Villanova; it starts just a few minutes from the village centre. In addition, a natural ice rink opens every winter, weather permitting. Both details expressly refer to the winter season and the conditions stated in each case.

Along the Former Railway Line

For cycling, the Lunga Via delle Dolomiti follows the route of the former Dolomites railway. Original railway stations, tunnels and bridges have been preserved along the route. The historic character of the route therefore derives from its former use as a railway line and the structures that are still present.
