Misurina lies at an altitude of 1,756 metres in an area characterised by mountains and green forests. The small natural Lago di Misurina is the defining feature of the village, reflecting the surrounding peaks. The Cadini, Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Monte Cristallo and the Sorapis Massif appear in the lake. This means that choosing the village is about more than a mountain landscape: a clearly recognisable lake is also at the heart of it.

Exploring Lago di Misurina

A path runs along the shore of Lago di Misurina, allowing visitors to walk around the lake. This path makes the body of water itself an independent destination within the village. You can view the lake from different perspectives along the shore, while the surrounding mountains define the character of the landscape.

Another way to appreciate Misurina and its altitude is the two-seater Col de Varda chairlift. It connects Misurina at 1,756 metres with Rifugio Col de Varda at 2,106 metres and takes around ten minutes. From the rifugio, there are views of Lago di Misurina and the surrounding mountains, including Cristallo, the Sexten Dolomites, the Cadini, Sorapiss and the Tofane.

Hikes and connections into the mountain world

Rifugio Col de Varda is a starting point for numerous hikes into the Cadini di Misurina. The destinations mentioned include Rifugio Fonda Savio and Rifugio Città di Carpi. This allows a stay in Misurina to be combined with various mountain destinations without losing sight of the starting point at Lago di Misurina.

Another specific connection is provided by a shuttle service to Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It runs from Misurina Genzianella directly to Rifugio Auronzo. This connection is one of the independent reference points for travellers who view Misurina as a starting point for visiting this mountain destination.

Winter and summer experiences

Specific activities are also documented for different seasons. The Misurina ski area includes an easy slope suitable for beginners taking their first steps in skiing. Campo scuola Loita has two cross-country ski trails. A rowing-boat trip on Lago di Misurina is also considered a summer experience. The three activities are clearly different: they range from an easy ski slope and cross-country ski trails to a trip on the lake.

Historic places in Misurina

Monte Piana is a memorial site dedicated to the First World War and is home to a historical open-air museum about the First World War. The Chiesa della Madonna della Salute offers a different historical connection. It was consecrated by Don Antonio Da Rin in August 1900. Queen Margherita of Savoy attended a Mass there in honour of her husband, who had been killed in July of the same year.
