Pedavena is ideal for a trip that combines experiences in nature, local history and specific sightseeing opportunities. The Monte Avena is particularly characteristic, with its extensive pastureland, circular trails and cultural destinations. These include Villa Pasole, the Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna and the Fabbrica in Pedavena. When choosing accommodation in Pedavena, you can understand the character of the area through these different experiences.

Trails, Pastureland and Monte Avena

In summer, Monte Avena is used for walks through extensive pastureland. People also come here who are interested in free flight. Some routes in the municipality of Pedavena are suitable not only for hiking but also for mountain biking. Most of the routes described by the municipality can be walked all year round. They run mainly within the municipal area and are designed as circular routes, with the same starting and finishing point.

The Anello del Monte Avena provides specific guidance: white and blue directional arrows display the name of the circular route and mark its course. Another option is Magna e Cammina, a 7-kilometre walking route through the forests and across the mountain pastures of Monte Avena. There are four stations along the route for tasting local specialities. This makes the trail a combination of physical activity and an explicitly described sequence of culinary stops.

The early history of Monte Avena is also documented. A few artefacts from the Middle Palaeolithic, the Mousterian, were found at an archaeological site. They were made by Neanderthals around 60,000 years ago. In the Pian d’Avena area, at the foot of the Vette Feltrine, there is the park’s information and refreshment point. It has picnic tables, fire pits for barbecues, toilets and information material about the park.

Historic Sites and Sightseeing

Villa Pasole was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. It was also the seat of the Accademia degli Erranti, a circle of intellectuals and artists. Another destination lies above Facen: the Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna is located on Monte Avena at an altitude of 929 metres and can be reached from Facen via a steep path. The sanctuary has very ancient origins and was probably built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower.

The Festa di Fonte di Santa Susanna is associated with the sanctuary and takes place on 11 August. On this occasion, members of the Facen community walk to the sanctuary. For an insight into the local brewing tradition, the Fabbrica in Pedavena is an option. Visits are possible all year round by prior reservation. A guided tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and includes the brewhouse and the historical museum. Old tools, machines and equipment are displayed during the tour.

Local Products and Events

The Mercatini nel Parco Birreria Pedavena give visitors the opportunity to discover and buy local and handcrafted products. A past event, the Festa dell’Orzo, took place in Pedavena on 15 and 16 July 2023; the programme included events, music, food and beer. These dates are provided as historical context and do not constitute a future event date.
