Salce is suitable for a trip that combines historic buildings, ecclesiastical art and regional everyday culture. The town and Col di Salce preserve evidence from several centuries. At the same time, the regional context of Valbelluna provides access to an approximately 80-kilometre cycling route between Belluno and Feltre.

Churches and Architectural Heritage in Salce

Since 1346, a chapel dedicated to the apostle San Bartolomeo has stood in Col di Salce on the site of today's parish church. The old chapel was expanded to its present size and form in 1605. The Chiesa di San Bartolomeo in Salce also houses a wooden statue of the Addolorata by Valentino Panciera Besarel. Salce was legally recognised as a parish in 1834.

Another historic building is Villa Giamosa. Architectural elements in its foundations and cellar rooms point to an earlier structure dating from the 15th century. This probably belonged to one of the castles whose demolition Venice ordered in 1421. At the corner of the walled grounds stands a Baroque chapel with a double octagonal floor plan. Villa Zaglio in Col di Salce dates from the 17th century.

The smaller religious buildings also complete the picture. The Oratorio della Beata Vergine Annunciata in Salce dates from the 18th century. The Chiesa di San Pietro a Salce was demolished in 1812 because it had fallen into disrepair and was rebuilt in 1833. Its original stone entrance portal was preserved. The year 1579 is carved in stone on the main portal. After the necessary work, the church was reopened for worship in 1877.

Cycling in Valbelluna

If you would like to combine Salce with a regional cycling tour, the Anello della Valbelluna is a clearly defined option in the wider area. The approximately 80-kilometre route connects Belluno and Feltre. It runs along cycle paths and country roads and is considered suitable for less experienced cyclists, families and e-bikes. This distinguishes the experience from a visit to a single town: the route connects several points in Valbelluna, without implying any particular accommodation location or a specific starting point in Salce.

Local Products and Traditional Events

For an insight into the regional food culture, Panificio Bertagno Salce is a good choice. The bakery specialises in handmade foods made with sourdough and carefully selected flours. It also offers selected food products from small local producers. Alongside the churches and villas, you can therefore encounter products connected with everyday local life.

It has been recorded that the traditional Sagra di San Bartolomeo was organised on 22, 23 and 24 August at the sports field in Salce (Belluno) by the Associazione Sole Luna Volley Salce. The date should be understood as a past event date and does not constitute a statement about a future edition.
