Trichiana can be explored particularly through its circular trails, the distinctive Monte Cimone and an unusually diverse cultural history.

Circular Trails with Clear Differences

The Anello del Giro delle Ville begins at Piazza Toni Merlin in Trichiana. The circular trail is 10.9 kilometres long and has an average walking time of three hours. It can be walked year-round and is also suitable for gravel bikes and Nordic walking. This makes it easy to classify by distance, time frame and means of travel.

Another option is the Anello di Carve, a circular trail of medium difficulty starting in Trichiana. The Anello Brent de l’Art also begins in nearby Sant’Antonio Tortal. The route passes the Brent de l’Art, old lime kilns and the remains of a water mill. The three trails therefore differ in their starting points, length or level of difficulty, and the historical or scenic features along the route.

Monte Cimone is part of the landscape. At 1,294 metres, it is the highest point in the municipality of Trichiana. The foundations of a US Army barracks, used as a radio relay station during the Cold War, have also been preserved there. Another natural highlight is the La Cascata waterfall attraction: it consists of two waterfalls and turns into an ice sculpture in winter, with water continuing to flow inside it.

Historic Sites and Literary Traces

The history of the area goes back a long way: Trichiana has been inhabited since the Mesolithic period and continued to develop during Roman times. Historic buildings include the villa with barchessa belonging to the former Villa-Polit complex, a villa dating from the late 18th to the 19th century. The Pieve di San Felice is considered one of the oldest churches in Valbelluna and was an old parish church dating from the 6th century.

Trichiana is known as the “Paese del Libro” because a national literary prize is awarded there every year. The journalist, writer and partisan Tina Merlin was born in Trichiana. In the nearby Villa Piloni-Federici-Foscolo, a display panel presents the Ritmo Bellunese, considered one of the earliest attestations of the literary volgare in Italy. The villa is inhabited; visits are available exclusively by prior reservation.

Regional Products, Crafts and Events

The local character is also reflected in specific production methods. Latteria Sant’Antonio Tortal collects milk from small local farms and processes it into cheese, butter and ricotta. The La Fiorita shop in Trichiana offers local products made from barley, spelt and Sponcio corn, including flour, pasta and biscuits.

At Intrecci Bellunesi, you can take a class to learn how to twist straw and softened branches from willow, chestnut or other trees and shrubs. Dolomiti Fantasy organises a cosplay competition every year. The event was created in 2017 through the collaboration of the team from the newly founded Castle of Fantasy association, the Pro Loco of Trichiana, the former municipality of Trichiana and the Red Phoenix cultural association.
