Rosolina between the Adriatic, lagoon and Po Delta

Rosolina combines a long stretch of coastline with a landscape shaped by lagoons and valli da pesca. When choosing where to stay, the distinction between Rosolina and Rosolina Mare is particularly relevant: Rosolina Mare has a nine-kilometre-long beach between the Adriatic and the northern lagoons of the Po Delta. Rosolina Mare is also home to a tourist mooring in Porto Fossone. The coast and lagoon landscape thus represent different sides of the same destination.

Natural environment and trails

The character of the landscape is particularly evident in the Giardino Botanico di Porto Caleri. The botanical garden is located in the southern part of the Rosolina Mare coastline and covers approximately 44 hectares. It serves to preserve a unique natural landscape of considerable scientific interest. In the garden, you can explore its habitats via three different trails.

Since 1992, a purpose-built trail has led through the brackish-water habitats near the Laguna di Caleri. Brackish water refers to the transitional zone between salt water and fresh water, as is typical of lagoons. The trails provide access to different landscape elements within the garden without presenting them as a uniform coastal setting.

Another way to discover the landscape is the Via delle Valli Nord. It runs along fish-farming areas and the lagoon, as well as through holm oak and pine forests. An optional detour leads to the mouth of the Adige. The Via delle Valli Nord also passes through Valle Sagraeda, where you can observe one of the largest flamingo colonies in the Po Delta.

Culture and historical traces in Rosolina

Rosolina also has clearly identifiable historical sites away from the coast and lagoon. The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio was built in the 17th century. The Casone di valle Venier is a rural residential building and stands out for its enormous fireplace. Rosolina is also home to the Venetian oratory of the former Valle Moceniga.

On the estate of the Venetian patrician Mocenigo family, a church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception was built in 1789. The route of the ancient Via Popillia also bears witness to the town's ancient origins.

Regional produce from the delta and lagoon

The cultivation of Radicchio di Chioggia IGP is also part of the region's distinctive character. Rosolina is one of the municipalities with the most important growing areas for this speciality in the Po Delta. In the lagoons of the municipalities of Rosolina, Porto Viro and Porto Tolle, Vongole veraci are farmed across a total of approximately 5,300 hectares within the Parco del Delta del Po.
