Brendola combines a landscape shaped by hills, vineyards and rural paths with historic buildings and a distinctive regional cuisine. Brendola is considered an important western gateway to the Colli Berici. To help you find your way around, the municipality publishes a map of Brendola showing sights, accommodation, services and paths throughout the municipal area.

Landscape and paths around Brendola

The municipal area includes wooded hills and hills covered with meadows, along with some vineyards, as well as a flatter area between the hills. As a result, the paths described reveal different sides of the area: they lead through the historic centre, vineyards and fields, or to traces of former water-supply systems and religious history.

The Centro Storico route starts at Piazzetta del Donatore and takes around three and a half hours. It offers the opportunity to discover the most important historic buildings in Brendola’s historic centre. La Via dei Carri is shorter, taking about an hour and a half, and starts at Casa Natale S. Bertilla. The birthplace of Saint Bertilla is a rural 19th-century dwelling that has preserved its original features and furnishings.

The Madonna dei Prati hiking trail takes around two hours on foot. Its route passes through vineyards, cultivated fields and tree-lined avenues. The Chiesa di Madonna dei Prati complex comprises a church, bell tower, cloister and rectory. The Sentiero di San Vito e delle Fontane begins in the hamlet of San Vito on Via Lampertico and leads to the upper part of Contrada Ca’ Vecchie. The circular route passes four fountains or washhouses, as well as the former aqueduct of the hamlet of San Vito. The Antica Chiesa Benedettina di San Vito is also part of the circular route.

Historic buildings and sacred art

One of the area’s notable historic buildings is Torre Revese. The square tower of a complex built in the late 16th century and owned by the Revese family has been preserved. Villa Piovene – Municipio now serves as the seat of the municipal administration and is considered one of the elegant Gothic villas in the province of Vicenza.

Rocca dei Vescovi stands on a limestone spur of Monte Sommaripa. Its name derives from the former episcopal jurisdiction. Another special feature is Chiesetta Revese, a sacred building from the early Renaissance dedicated to Santa Maria Annunciata. Its dating is disputed; the present structure is thought to date from the period between 1486 and 1499. The fresco cycle inside is attributed to the Vicentine painter Giovanni Buonconsiglio.

San Vito also preserves an older history. San Vito di Brendola is home to an ancient court of Benedictine origin. Monks following the Rule of Saint Benedict settled there before the year 1000 and remained until the Napoleonic era. In this way, the site complements the sections of the paths where historic buildings, former uses and sacred complexes can be experienced together.

Wine and products from Brendola

Winegrowing accounts for around 45 percent of Brendola’s total agricultural land. Garganega is an important native grape variety of the Berici Hills and, at the same time, the most important white grape variety in Brendola by volume. Various types of wine are made from it. Traditional baked goods, especially the typical Pan Biscotto, as well as honey, also form part of the area’s culinary identity.

Characteristic agricultural products include extra virgin olive oil with the protected designation of origin D.O.P. of the Colli Berici. Prickly pear cacti also grow below the castle. This makes it possible to connect impressions of the vineyards, fields and hills with specific products from Brendola.
