Campolongo Sul Brenta
Accommodation in Campolongo Sul Brenta
Campolongo Sul Brenta lies on the right bank of the Brenta River at the southern end of the Valsugana. The town combines trails through the mountainous area with routes along the river, visible traces of tobacco cultivation and several churches with distinctive historical features.
Trails between the Brenta, mountains and tobacco terraces
A direct connection between Campolongo and the river is the TRODOI TRAILS 14 route. It leads to Campese; for the return journey, it follows a combined cycling and walking path along the Brenta back to the starting point. The section of the Alta Via del Tabacco from Valstagna to Campolongo offers a different type of route: it is 9 km long, has an elevation gain of 700 m and takes about 3 hours. This time indication should be understood as an approximate duration. The Alta Via del Tabacco is also known as the »Museo Diffuso Alta Via del Tabacco«. It connects settlements at higher elevations and tobacco terraces and can be divided into three sections. Each of these sections can be arranged as a circular route by descending into the valley and returning to the starting point along the Brenta River. For another, largely flat route option, a 21 km cycling route passes through Campolongo and connects several towns in the Brenta Valley. There is also a rafting descent of approximately 10 km from the San Gaetano district to Campolongo sul Brenta.Nature trail and mountainous area
The mountainous area of Campolongo sul Brenta reaches an elevation of 1,200 m. Nature and educational trails cross centuries-old forests there. The area around the Antonia Dal Sasso nature trail contains old tobacco terraces, small valleys, springs and hay meadows; it also features a remarkable abundance of flowers. The educational trail is intended for school classes and interested groups who want to learn about natural phenomena and the traditional human use of the Valbrenta. Typical cultivation terraces are also visible in the districts of Vialetti, Orlandi, Zannini and Contarini. The mountainous area also includes traditional mountain huts used for grazing livestock. Along the trails, natural elements such as forests, springs and meadows therefore meet evidence of earlier land use. A path also leads uphill from the Piazza in Campolongo to the clearly visible Cappella degli Alpini.Churches and local history
The Church of Beata Vergine del Carmelo in Campolongo sul Brenta was built between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is designed in the neoclassical style and has two symmetrically arranged Romanesque bell towers. The Church of Madonna del Carmine was begun in 1793 according to designs by the Bassano-born architect Antonio Gaidon in the neoclassical style. Madonna del Carmine contains an altarpiece of the Assumption of Mary by Giambattista Canale and a ceiling fresco. The furnishings also include wooden sculptures, including a statue of Madonna del Carmine and a crucifix, as well as an original two-part baptismal font made of Asiago stone with a decorated pyramidal cover. The church of Campolongo is the newest of the seven chapels built in the area of the Campese monastery. Announced as a two-weekend program of events, the Festa in Brenta in Campolongo included folk, sporting and liturgical events. Thus, the trails and landscapes of the Brenta area, as well as religious buildings and local event traditions, all form part of the picture of Campolongo Sul Brenta.Advertisement · We may receive a commission if you book.
