Canova di Cereda: Church, Villas and Monte Verlaldo
Accommodation in Canova di Cereda
Canova di Cereda brings together sacred buildings and villas with the landscape around Monte Verlaldo. Cereda was known for its wine production. For travelers weighing cultural history against outdoor activities, the area offers different ways to shape a stay.
Church, Chapel and Villas
The late Baroque church of Sant’Andrea dates from the late 18th century. It contains a marble high altar by Orazio Marinali and a tabernacle by the 15th-century sculptor Niccolò da Cornedo. The gap in time between the tabernacle and the church places different eras side by side in one building; the marble altar adds a work with its own artist attribution.
The chapel of Madonna della Neve also dates from the 16th century. In the same century, the Trissino family built Villa Negri Bevilacqua; Villa Tonin is an 18th-century building. The chapel and villas thus extend the cultural history beyond Sant’Andrea and make it possible to compare different architectural forms alongside sacred art.
In chronological order, the local ensemble ranges from the 15th-century tabernacle through the 16th-century chapel and Villa Negri Bevilacqua to Sant’Andrea and 18th-century Villa Tonin. This allows you to organize the cultural sites by historical period rather than view them as if they were all from the same era.
The “Caminada col minestron” passes through the contrade of Cereda and offers the chance to visit nativity scenes set up by local families. Unlike a single building, the focus here is on a route through the contrade and the nativity scenes as places to visit.
Monte Verlaldo: Views and Activities
Monte Verlaldo rises between Cornedo Vicentino and the hamlet of Cereda. From the mountain, there are panoramic views over the Valle dell’Agno, the Venetian Plain, the Piccole Dolomiti and Monte Grappa. On a clear day, the view stretches from the valley and plain to the mountains. The views and sporting activities appeal to different interests: one is about looking across several landscapes, the other about getting active on the mountain.
Monte Verlaldo is used for hiking in nature and trail running. A paragliding launch ramp is located on the summit; at the foot of the mountain in Cereda, there is a climbing area with challenging routes, used by climbers and for caving practice. The description of the routes as challenging applies to the climbing area; hiking and trail running are other activities. For any specific use, the ramp’s operational suitability and the access and safety conditions at the climbing area should be checked on site.
A switchback path climbs from the Cereda side; it starts near the former Nell’s pizzeria in the valley between Monte Verlaldo and Monte Nudo. The route and access can change, so they should be checked when planning a specific trip.
