Lusiana – Culture, Nature and Historic Places
Accommodation in Lusiana
Cultural and Craft Heritage
The thematic spectrum ranges from traditional work in the forest and ecclesiastical architectural history to craft materials and contemporary art in the landscape. In the Area Labioli e antichi lavori del bosco, visitors can see the charcoal burner’s shelter with demonstration charcoal kilns, the woodsman’s hut with “biode” and “fogolaro”, a lime kiln, and water basins carved into the rock known as “labioli”.
At the centre of Lusiana is the Chiesa di San Giacomo. Together with the Campanile, it forms the eastern side of Piazza IV Novembre. The Campanile was built at the end of the 19th century. From its bell chamber, visitors can see the landscape of the Altopiano di Asiago; on clear days, Monte Cimone and Parco del Sojo are also visible. This place thus combines a tangible ecclesiastical connection with views of the surrounding landscape.
Museums, Art and Alpine Nature
The Museo Palazzon is housed in a 17th-century building in the heart of Lusiana. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to traditional straw processing. The “fastughi” were used to make “sporte” and “capei”. The museum site is therefore characterised not only by its building, but also by a clearly defined craft theme.
The private park Parco del Sojo – Arte e Natura in Lusiana covers approximately 8 hectares. Along paths and old mule tracks, it displays more than 80 contemporary sculptures. The Museo della Fauna Alpina above the Biblioteca di Lusiana focuses on a different subject: it provides knowledge about mountain animals and the traces they leave in the forests.
The Giardino Alpino “Dario Broglio” is located in the Monte Corno area. The area is recognised as a Sito di Importanza Comunitaria (S.I.C.). The garden contains more than 500 herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees typical of the mountains of the Province of Vicenza. These also include rare species or species found locally on the plateau. The facilities described represent four different, spatially separate themes: traditional crafts, contemporary art, mountain fauna and botanical features.
Memorial Sites and Marked Trails
The Cimitero Militare Britannico di Granezza is one of five British cemeteries on the Altopiano di Asiago7Comuni. It was established shortly after the end of the conflict, is protected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and contains a total of 1,024 fallen soldiers. “La Grande Guerra” represents a distinct historical point of reference: the subject covers the British and French sectors as well as the resistance line in the Monte Corno area.
A fully signposted nature trail on Monte Corgnon is documented for another way of exploring the landscape. It leads from Val Fontana along the slope and summit of Monte Corgnon through the forest to the Villaggio Preistorico on the ridge. The route thus connects the starting point, mountain slope, summit, forest and a prehistoric village as successive waypoints.
