Montecchio Precalcino combines evidence of architectural and local history with trails through woodland and hilly landscapes. This gives you different priorities to consider when planning your trip: you can explore historical sites and collections, compare two clearly described Scollinando routes, or look across the upper Vicenza plain towards the mountain groups in the surrounding area.

Trails with different route profiles

Scollinando Trail No. 1: Monte is a cycling and walking trail along the Roggia Montecchia at the foot of the hill. The route is 6.5 km long and has a maximum elevation difference of 55 metres. A second documented route is Scollinando Trail No. 2: Roggia Cassandra. It is 3.4 km long and has a maximum elevation difference of 53 metres.

The Sentiero dei Nievo offers a different perspective on the landscape. The trail leads through the woods along the Erbizo stream, which is fed by a permanent spring located farther uphill. Wild plants grow along the trail, which is also inhabited by various bird species. The focus here is therefore not on the length of a designated route, but on the combination of woodland, stream, spring and wildlife.

Villas, church and local history

One of the notable cultural attractions is Villa Forni Cerato. Designed by Andrea Palladio, the building was constructed around 1570. Advance reservation is required for visits; admission is free. Villa Da Schio Cita offers a different historical perspective: it is a complex of various buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, some of which were built on the foundations of earlier Gothic structures. The estate also houses a collection of works by the artist Pompeo Pianezzola and a small rural museum.

The Chiesa di San Rocco was built in 1487 by the community of Montecchio Precalcino as a vow against the plague. Its features include a bell tower from the following century, an 18th-century altar and polychrome wooden sculptures. The individual structural elements and furnishings provide the church with several points of reference in time, which can be distinguished from one another when viewed closely.

Views and places of remembrance

Belvedere Tornieri Mazzaggio is a viewpoint above the upper Vicenza plain. From there, the view extends to the Tre Croci range, the Carega and Sengio Alto groups, the Pasubio massif and the Novegno–Summano group. The entrance to Val d'Astico is also part of the panorama described. The viewpoint complements the nearby trails and historical sites with a much broader landscape perspective.

Another place with a historical focus is the British military cemetery of Montecchio Precalcino. It preserves the remains of 438 British military personnel and one Indian civilian. At the same time, it is the largest British war cemetery in the Vicenza area. This site therefore represents a different approach to the history of the area than the villas and the Chiesa di San Rocco.
