Discover Montegaldella
Accommodation in Montegaldella
Montegaldella combines a flat area along the Bacchiglione River with remarkable evidence of Venetian architectural and local history. If you would like to explore Veneto independently and discover not just a single building but a range of cultural themes, the town offers several distinct points of interest: a route accessible on foot or by bicycle, villas in Ghizzole, historic religious buildings, and events with a local connection.
Along the Bacchiglione
The landscape around Montegaldella is flat and crossed by the Bacchiglione River. The Ciclabile del Saluto offers a special combination of activity and local history. It is accessible by bicycle or on foot. Along the route, 20 information panels explain the origins and history of the greeting. This means that the focus here is not only on getting around: the route also conveys specific historical information that you can explore during a walk or bike ride.
The townscape also includes the Monumento del Saluto in Montegaldella. It is described as the world's first monument dedicated to “Ciao.” The monument is a two-metre-high bas-relief made of Berici stone and stands in front of Montegaldella Town Hall. For orientation on site, this provides a precisely named cultural landmark that is distinct from the route of the Ciclabile del Saluto.
Villas and historic landmarks in Ghizzole
Villa Ragona is located in Ghizzole. Girolamo Ragona commissioned Palladio to build a palace at his country residence. The main structure of Villa Ragona was built between 1553 and 1555. These dates place the building in the Renaissance, without implying anything about current visiting opportunities.
Another documented complex is Villa Conti Lampertico Campagnolo, known as La Deliziosa. Although it was never completed, it was built in 1622 by Count Piero Conti and his descendants. Its garden contains numerous statues of characters from 18th-century Italian theatre, attributed to Orazio Marinali and his workshop. For planning a specific visit, one point is crucial: La Deliziosa is private property and is not open to the public.
Church, Ghiacciaia, and cultural events
The old parish church of S. Michele Arcangelo in Montegaldella probably dates back to the Lombard period. It is 61.45 metres high and has a peal of 12 bells played with ropes. A group of bell ringers operates and maintains the bells of S. Michele Arcangelo and has been active since 1980. The church therefore combines its presumed early origins with the ongoing maintenance of its bells, which continues to the present day.
La Ghiacciaia dates from the first half of the 18th century and was formerly used by the entire community to store food. Today, Ghiacciaia in Arte uses the old Ghiacciaia as a venue for cultural events. The site thus combines its former communal function with cultural use as an event venue.
The Festa della Zucca is also one of the documented event themes. Organised by Pro Loco Montegaldella, the Festa della Zucca is being held for the 15th time and takes place in Ghizzole in the second half of September. If you would like to plan your stay around such a date, this at least specifies the event's local and seasonal timeframe.
