Accommodation in Monteviale
Monteviale brings together clearly marked trails, historic buildings and local traditions, offering different ways to discover the town. If you would like to combine nature, culture and regional cuisine, you will find both signposted routes and specific historical and culinary points of interest here. For orientation, the bus connection from Vicenza and several special places within Monteviale are also relevant.
Trails through woods and meadows
The municipality of Monteviale lists seven walking and combined cycling and walking trails: Sentiero n. 1 “Canestrello”, Sentiero n. 2 “Zuccheriei – delle Are”, Sentiero n. 3 “Vegrolongo – della Sorgente – dell’Ornaro”, Sentiero n. 4 “del Perozzo”, Sentiero n. 5 “del Cornugio”, Sentiero n. 6 “Strada False” and Sentiero n. 7 “dell’Orco”. The documented trail network is therefore aimed at hikers, cycling enthusiasts and visitors who enjoy woods and meadows.
Another specific route description concerns the Sentiero delle Foglie Lucenti. Circular trail markers identify the route, which has a recommended duration of 45 minutes. Along the trail are ten life-size silhouettes of animals that live in the surrounding woods: robin, blackbird, buzzard, squirrel, snake, stone marten, fox, badger, hare and hedgehog. At the Fontana della Donestra, there is a view across the plain; the surroundings are cool and shady there. A different experience is offered by the Fattoria Didattica A&Alpaca, with trekking accompanied by Huacaya alpacas.
Villa Zileri and its historic features
One of the notable cultural sites is Villa Loschi Zileri, now Motterle. It was built in the hamlet of Biron in 1734 by Muttoni on an older 15th-century building. Villa Zileri contains numerous frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo. The historic park around Villa Zileri provides a suitable habitat for rare wild-growing plants and impressive centuries-old trees.
A particular feature of the park is a bald cypress with a trunk circumference of six metres at a height of 1.5 metres. It is considered a monumental tree at national level. This detail connects the historic estate with a precisely described natural feature, without reducing the park to its architectural history.
Chapel and church as witnesses to local history
The votive chapel of Madonna della Salute was built in late autumn 1631 in gratitude for prayers to end the plague. For more than a year, the plague had also claimed numerous victims in the Monteviale area. Another historical trace leads to the church of Santa Maria Assunta: it was built on the foundations of the fortress of Monteviale, which was completely destroyed by Tebaldo Francigena in 1240. The two sites thus represent different chapters in Monteviale’s history.
Traditional cuisine in Monteviale
The traditional Sagra dell’Ottava, an old village festival, was held in 2025 and featured performances and local cuisine. The Sagra dell’Ottava is also known as the Sagra di Monteviale and is associated with Porchetta di Monteviale as a typical dish. Porchetta di Monteviale is made from a pig weighing between 20 and 35 kg and cooked on a spit over a fire fuelled strictly with wood. The event is therefore one of the documented occasions where local cuisine can be considered alongside a traditional village festival tradition; the stated event date lies in the past.
