Discover Pove del Grappa
Accommodation in Pove Del Grappa
Pove del Grappa is a destination in Veneto whose landscape stretches from the banks of the Brenta to the Grappa Massif. The area ranges from 100 metres above sea level at the Brenta River to Monte Asolone at 1,529 metres. For choosing your location, this means an unusually clear combination of riverside scenery, mountain slopes and historic places.
Hiking trails with varied landscapes
The Sentiero della Bastia begins in the historic centre of Pove del Grappa. The trail is 1,430 metres long, climbs 242 metres in elevation and takes approximately 40 minutes to walk. This means that the starting point is right in the town, while the route also includes a significant ascent.
Another route is the Sentiero Panoramica. It runs as a relatively easy trail along the mountainside and offers views across the Vicenza plain at open sections. The Sentiero del Cornon leads to the Sacello del Cornon. There you will find an open bivouac with a fireplace, tables and benches. The documented hiking trails therefore differ not only in their location, but also in their destinations and the landscapes they open up.
The Sentiero del Brenta also runs along the Brenta River. This flat, well-maintained cycle path connects the areas of Bassano and Valsugana. Those who do not want to explore Pove del Grappa exclusively via mountain trails will find a second, riverside way of getting around here.
Churches and cultural heritage
The Chiesetta di San Bartolomeo has existed since at least the 10th century. It is the only church in the area of Pove del Grappa that has preserved its historic architecture. The parish church of San Vigilio houses an altarpiece by Jacopo da Ponte dating from 1537 and a Flemish wooden crucifix from the 15th century. The Church of San Pietro preserves three 17th-century altars with altarpieces from the 18th century.
Another local speciality is the stoneworking tradition. For more than four centuries, it has encompassed the extraction, processing and trade of stone materials quarried on the slopes of Monte Grappa above the town. Most of Pove's population devoted themselves to these activities. The Museo dello Scalpellino is accessible only by prior reservation: by telephone on 0424-808793 or by email at ragioneria@comune.pove.vi.it.
Festivals and olive growing in the town centre
The Fiera Mercato dell’Olivo has taken place in Pove del Grappa every year since 1982 on Palm Sunday. It is dedicated to olive growing and nursery plants. The exhibition area includes stalls in the square in front of the town hall and in the adjoining streets, so the market extends across the town centre.
Every five years, the Feste Quinquennali in onore del Divin Crocifisso take place on the first two Sundays in September. Around 600 residents of Pove take part in the solemn processions through the town's streets in costume. They portray biblical figures and the Passion of Christ. These two events have different focuses: the Fiera Mercato dell’Olivo represents the agricultural tradition, while the Quinquennali showcase religious and community customs.
