Discover Solagna
Accommodation in Solagna
Solagna combines evidence of local history with trails through the Canale di Brenta and to prominent points on the slopes. If you would like to place a location in the context of specific cultural and landscape features during your trip to Veneto, you will find various points of interest here: the Eremo di San Giorgio, the Chiesa di Santa Giustina, former lime- and silk-processing facilities, as well as trails to Campese, Finestron and the Cresta di San Giorgio.
Historical Sites and Cultural Traces
The Eremo di San Giorgio lies at an altitude of 460 metres on a rock and on a ridge that forms a natural barrier on the left bank of the Canale di Brenta. Reliable documentary evidence for the Eremo dates back to 1571. The access method for visitors is clearly described: the Eremo can only be reached on foot via a well-maintained path, in about 30 minutes from the town of Solagna. The Sentiero CAI 944 begins in Località Mattecci and leads to the Eremo di San Giorgio and the Cresta di San Giorgio.
The Chiesa di Santa Giustina is considered the oldest church known to have existed in the Canale di Brenta and dates back to the early Christianisation of the area. It was rebuilt around 1850. Inside there is a depiction of Saint Justina by Francesco da Ponte il Vecchio. The church therefore represents both a very early historical layer of the valley and the later architectural development of the town.
Another focus is the history of work and the economy. The Filanda Secco was built in 1852 as a silk-spinning mill and converted into a tobacco warehouse and storehouse in 1895. In the 20th century, Solagna had two active lime kilns. The restored second lime kiln of La Calcara di Solagna is located near the ruins of the Torre di Solagna. This complex also includes an artificial cave that served as a powder magazine for the quarry.
The Piccolo Museo 1915-1918 “Roberto Favero” is located in the Albergo S. Giovanni at Via Collalto 28. The collection displays uniforms, helmets, weapons, badges, personal belongings and other relics of troops of all nationalities represented in the conflict on the Colli Alti. Its specific address and thematic focus make the museum an independent cultural point of reference within a tour of the town.
Trails, Viewpoints and Regional Connections
Several differently described trails are available for orientation in the area. Connection trail 940 links Campo Solagna and Finestron; the connection runs between Solagna and San Nazario. The Sentiero del Torrion leads downhill through the forest to Località Bresagge, passing the Croce del Torrion on a rocky outcrop with views over Solagna. Within the municipality of Solagna, the RV 9 – Brenta Veneto route also runs along the road to Campese.
The Bastia is also one of the town’s historic landmarks: the Ezzelini built the Bastia on the 350-metre-high summit of Bastia. Together with the Eremo, the Torre di Solagna and La Calcara, this forms not a single complex of sights but a series of clearly distinguishable places with their own historical associations. During the Immacolata-Concezione festival, Solagna is also associated with the “sagra del mandorlato”. This culinary connection complements the cultural and historical themes with a local festival occasion.
