The famous seaside resort Jesolo belongs to the province of Venice. It is situated at the northern end of Adriatic. The town consists of two parts. The main part is Jesolo Paese and the beach section Lido di Jesolo. There are only 24,000 inhabitants in the town but almost 6 million tourists visit it every year. The reason why so many people visit this little town is quite simple. There is a 15 km long sandy beach here. Besides, climate here is really mild and balanced. The average highest temperature here is 17.9°C and the minimum temperature is13.2 °C. The average annual water temperature is 15.7° C. And the average sunshine duration is 6 hours per day.
“Iesulum” Jesolo was already a rising port city in the Roman times. In early Middle Ages it was a flourishing trade centre. Besides, it was famous for shipping and salt production. Jesolo was famous for its 32 saltworks and 42 churches. Unfortunately, they didn’t survive. There are only remains of the cathedral (the 5th century) and the Basilica of San Mauro (the 9th century). You will also find the remains of the pre-Gothic church of Santa Maria Assunta. It was destroyed in 20th century. So, Jesolo is really poor in monuments and sights. However, there is a great variety of various tourist facilities here, so you won’t get bored in any case. The fine, white sand beach with the typical parasols and beach chairs will surely contribute to make your rest unforgettable. Here you can also play beach volleyball, do water skiing, windsurfing, diving, fitness, bowling and play mini-golf.
There are many kinds of entertainment offered here. Families can go to the “Luna Park”, “Aqualandia” or “Pista Azzurra” (so-called go-kart bahn). During the season various festivals, like Wine Festival, Fish Festival, Watermelon Festival, are held. Besides, different sport events, concerts and theatre performances directly on the beach also take place here. You can also go on an excursion to Venice in the northern lagoon but the Murano islands (famous for glass art and Basilica di Santa Maria e Donato) and Torcello (famous for Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with the mosaic from the 12th century) are also a worthwhile goal. A special tip for gourmets of Torcello is the “Locanda Cipriani”.
Everyone can find a suitable accommodation in Jesolo. In the centre of the town there are many hotels. You can easily find a cozy apartment right on the beach. There is a campsite at the Lido di Cavallino. In the evening it is highly recommended to visit the restaurant “Al Gambero” or spend time in the bar-restaurant “Al Porto”.
